  Trafford Council's Adult Social Services Department was awarded a Local Innovation Award for "taking control of care" in March 2010. The award comes with a requirement to share good practice with others and continue to break new ground. Information is now available on the learning and support offer from Trafford Council and a series of pilot projects.

• Government restates expectations for Putting People First

  The Department of Health has written to councils restating what progress is expected on Putting People First in 2010-11. The new local authority circular states that councils must make personal budgets available to all eligible people with ongoing care and support needs. It highlights sources of advice and guidance which can help councils to achieve the Putting People First milestones, including the new guidance on eligibility.

To help to make this happen, the National Mental Health Development Unit (NMHDU), in conjunction with the Department of Health's Putting People First national delivery team and the NDTI, has published Paths to Personalisation.
